What is a School governor?
A school governor is a volunteer who helps lead a school and improve its educational standards. They do not handle day-to-day management; instead, they act as “critical friends” who provide strategic guidance, oversee budgets, and hold the headteacher accountable
Core Responsibilities
The governing body focuses on three key functions:
Overseeing Finances: Approving the school budget and ensuring resources are well spent.
Setting Strategic Direction: Defining the school’s vision, values, and long-term goals.
Ensuring Accountability: Holding the headteacher and leadership team responsible for pupil performance and staff management.
