Bentley New Village Primary School, located on Asquith Road in Bentley, Doncaster, was officially opened on January 2, 1913 by the West Riding County Council. Built to serve the expanding local mining population, it has educated generations of local children for over a century.
Key milestones in the school’s history include:
Present Day: The facility operates as a primary school and early years foundation centre, admitting children from ages 3 to 11.
1909–1911: As Bentley New Village was developed, land between the northern and southern housing areas was set aside for community use. The West Riding County Council purchased the site from local colliery owners, Barber, Walker & Co.
1911: Building work for the school began in September 1911. Construction was delayed for several weeks due to a major coal strike.
1913: The school officially opened on January 2, at a cost of £10,000. It was built to accommodate children who were outgrowing the older Bentley Cooke Street School.
